لاطيني ٻوليءَ جي هن لفظ جي لغوي معنيٰ آهي”ڪجهه به نه“. هن تصور ۾ معاشري جي سڀني ريتن رسمن ۽ قدرن جو مڪمل انڪار آهي. هن نظريي مطابق معاشري ۾ هر فرد کي اجازت هجڻ گهرجي، ته معاشري ۾ هن کي جيئن وڻي تيئن ڪري. هيءُ لفظ خاص طور ادب ۽ فلسفي جي نقطئه نگاهه کان استعمال ٿيندو آهي، جيڪو ڏسي ٿو ته زندگيءَ جو ڪو مقصد ڪونهي ۽ ان کي عمل پسنديءَ جي اک سان ڏسڻ ۾ ڪو فائدو ناهي، ڇاڪاڻ جو زندگيءَ کي ڪا به معروضي معنيٰ ناهي. رياستي نظام ۾ هيءُ نظريو ٻن رياستن وچ ۾ لاڳاپن جي بحاليءَ جي امڪانن نه هُجڻ واري صورتحال ۾ استعمال ٿيندو آهي. Nihilist اهڙي قسم جي ماڻهوءَ کي چيو ويندو آهي ، جيڪو انفراديت ۾ يقين رکي، ۽ جيڪو انفرادي آزادي ڪارڻ، معاشري پاران مقرر ڪيل حقن، فرضن ۽ قاعدن کي رد ڪري ڇڏي، اهو شخص ڪنهن به مادي شعور کان وانجهيل لقاءَ ۾ ويساهه کي تسيلم نه ڪندي هر شئي ۽ واقعي کي مادي حقيقتن ذريعي پرکي ٿو. ان قسم جا ماڻهو ڪنهن به اختيار، خواهه اهو مذهبي هجي يا رياستي يا وري معاشرتي ، ان کي رد ڪندا آهن.
