موروثي (heredity) ورثي جو ھڪ بنيادي ايڪو. ھڪ جين، ڪروموسوم (chromosome) ۾ ڊي اين اي (DNA) جي ھڪ مخصوص حصي سان لاڳاپيل ٿئي ٿي. اٽڪل 20,000 کان 25,000 مختلف جينون ڪروموسومن جي 23 جوڙن ۾ سٿيل ٿين ٿيون. جينون عضون ۽ جسماني سرشتن جي اوسر ۽ ڪمن تي ضابطو رکن ٿيون، ڪنھن فرد جي واڌ ڪرڻ، زنده رھڻ، پيدائش ڪرڻ ۽ ممڪن آھي ته ان جي پيرسجڻ ۽ موت جي به ھدايتن جو ھڪ دستور (instruction manual) مھيا ڪن. جينون، ماحولياتي عنصرن سان گڏ ڪنھن فرد جي ذھني، شخصي ۽ سڀاءَ ۾ به ڪردار ادا ڪن ٿيون.
