مايوسي، اداسائي ۽ زندگيءَ ۾ دلچسپي نه ھجڻ سان گڏ جذباتي چڱڀلائيءَ جو گهٽ احساس ھجڻ. نشانيون، مايوسيءَ جي شدت سان گڏ مختلف ٿي سگهن ٿيون. جن ۾ بک جو نه لڳڻ، ننڊ ڪرڻ ۾ تڪليف ٿيڻ، ٿڪ، سماجي سرگرمين ۾ دلچسپي نه ھجڻ، ڌيان ڌري نه سگهڻ ۽ ورلي پريشاني. شديد نراس فردن ۾ آپگهات (suicide) ڪرڻ جا خيال ته منجهن نڪمي ھجڻ جا احساس پيدا ٿي سگهن ٿا. شديد حالتن ۾ سوداءَ (hallucinations) يا گمان (delusions) پيدا ٿي سگهن ٿا. عام طور تي انھن جو بظاھر ڪو ھڪڙو ڪارڻ نٿو ٿئي. پر اھي زندگيءَ جي ڪيترن پھلوئن، جسماني بيمارين، ھارموني نقصن (جھڙوڪ: hypothyroidism) يا ٻار ڄڻڻ کانپوءِ ھارموني تبديلين (ڏسو، postnatal depression) سبب پيدا ٿي سگهن ٿا. ڪي دوائون جھڙوڪ: حمل روڪ گوريون (oral contraceptives) به ان جو ڪارڻ ٿي سگهن ٿيون. موروثيت به ان جو سبب ٿي سگهي ٿي. ڪي فرد سياري ۾ نراسائيءَ جو شڪار ٿين ٿا (ڏسو، seasonal affective disorder syndrome). انھن سڀني ڪارڻن کانسواءِ سماجي ۽ نفسياتي پھلو به ان جو ھڪ حصو ٿي سگهن ٿا.
