ھڪ سيلا خوردبيني جيوڙا خوردبين کانسواءِ ڏسڻ ۾ نٿا اچن (واحد بيڪٽيريم، bacterium). ھوا، مٽيءَ ۽ پاڻيءَ ۾ جام ٿين ٿا، ڪيترا انسانن لاءِ ھاڃيڪار نٿا ٿين. ڪي آنڊن ۾ رھندڙ ڪارائتا ٿين ٿا. ڇاڪاڻ ته کاڌي کي ٽوڙي ھضم ٿيڻ لائق بڻائين ٿا. جيڪي بئڪٽيريا بيماريون پيدا ڪن ٿا اھي روڳي (pathogens) سڏجن ٿا، جن جي انھن جي ڊول مطابق ٽن مکيو قسمن: ڪوڪسي/ گول (cocci/spherical)، بيسيلي/ راڊ جھڙا (bacilli/rod shaped) ۽ اسپائروڪيٽس (spirochaetes) يا اسپائريليا (spirilla/spiral-shaped) ۾ درجيبندي ڪجي ٿي. ڪيترن بئڪٽيريا کي چھبڪ جھڙيون تندون ٿين ٿيون جن کي فليجيلا (flagella) سڏجي ٿو، جن رستي اھي پاڻيٺن ۾ چرپر ڪري سگهن ٿا ته ڪن کي پلِي (pili) ٿئي ٿي جن رستي ٻين سيلن سان ڳنڍجي وڃن ٿا.
