جيتوڻيڪ هن اصطلاح جي صفتي معنيٰ ”عام رواجي“ يا ”روايتي“ آهي، پر بين الاقوامي تجزيي ۽ پرڏيهي پاليسيءَ جي حوالي سان ڪو به ڇيد ڪار ماضيءَ جي ڪارگُذاري، حال جي حالتن ۽ آئيندي جي اُپٽار وارين مڙني صورتن ۾ بُنيادي فرقن کي سمجهائڻ لاءِ ڪتب آڻيندو آهي. خاص طور تي اهڙيون صورتون جن ۾ تبديلي اچي چُڪي هُجي ۽ ان تبديليءَ کي ماضيءَ سان ڀيٽڻ جي ڪوشش ڪجي، ته هن اصطلاح جو استعمال سندس صفتي معنيٰ جي بلڪل اُبتڙ هُجي ٿو. مثال طور؛ ”روايتي هٿيارن“ (Conventional Weapons) جي اصطلاح جو جنگي حڪمت عمليءَ جي حوالي سان استعمال، دراصل ”نيوڪليائي هٿيارن“ جي تصور کي چٽو ۽ جُدا ڪري بيان ڪرڻ لاءِ ڪيو ويندو آهي. ساڳي طرح جنگي حڪمت عمليءَ ۾ به جڏهن اسين ”روايتي جنگ“ جو تصور ڏيندا آهيون ته اُن جو اصل مقصد غير روايتي جنگ جي تصور، مثال طور؛ ”گوريلا جنگ“ کي عام رواجي جنگي طريقي کان ڌار ڪندي، اُن جي منفرد ۽ غير معمولي ڍنگ کي واضح ڪرڻ هوندو آهي
